MUSIC

Building from the debut album, Playboyeurism consists of a wide range of music from the "Eurovision" opening of You through the "hippy style" Run and Hide. The sensuous mini-opera Tale of Los Lobjas is a fantastic Spanish-style story and the cd culminates in the rocky A Little Bit of What You Fancy. This cd contains something for all ages and all tastes.

Shall I just sing and dance?
I can do that for a while
Let me loosen up my shirt
Hey, but that's just my style

REVIEW

This eagerly anticipated, follow-on album sees Rob explore new themes and revisit old favourites.

The overall message is clearly to have fun despite what life may throw at you! Love and lovers come and go (You & Love and Time), persistent and impossible demands frustrate us (What do I have to do?), yearnings to escape to exotic places delude us (Run and Hide & The Tale of Los Lobjas) and yet we survive and enjoy life to the full in our own personal way (A little bit of what you fancy).

Playboyeurism is a playful celebration of life which uses jazzy, rhythmic and catchy tunes. There is no time or room for moping around feeling sorry for yourself – the music is lively and infectious and you get carried along with it, encouraged to move on to the next adventure life holds in store.

What marks Rob’s approach to life, both in this and his first album, is how he can reconcile opposite feelings and experiences and come out the winner. Whilst he admits his dependency “I need some comfort, I need some love” he proves he is always in control “I won’t let you go and leave me.” He both wishes to escape “I just want to run and hide” and yet he doesn’t give in but fights for what he wants “I could move a mountain to the shore of any beach, I could push the ocean so that it’s so far out to reach.” Sadness is certainly experienced, “I should be the one to cry”, but is overcome with a determination to enjoy life to the full, “It’s a pleasure, such a pleasure, feel free.”

What is Playboyeurism? Whilst it is a difficult concept to define, by the end of the album you have a pretty good idea. It’s a life-grabbing, life-loving, life-living attitude and indeed, attitude is what this album is all about. There are no half-measures here, just total and bold action “I could not have loved you more if I tried”, “You’ll see, you’ll see”, “I’m your man…I’d do anything for you.”

The images in the accompanying booklet illustrate this attitude – the singer’s sultry and piercing looks, the dramatic and often provocative poses, the exotic and playful costumes: the playboy has certainly come out to play!
